What we collect
When you take the test we store your answers, the time you took and your score, linked to a random result ID, and the country you took it from (worked out from your connection, for the national leaderboards). After the test you can leave your email so we send you your result. If you also tick the box for offers, we may send up to three emails about the full report over the following days, each with a one-click unsubscribe link; buying the report or unsubscribing stops them.
If you buy the full report, we store the name you enter for the certificate. Payment is handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card details.
How we use it
To show you your result and report, to issue and verify your certificate, and, in anonymous aggregate form, to calibrate the scoring so it becomes more accurate over time.
Who can see it
Anyone with your result link can open it, so share it only with people you choose. Anyone with your certificate code can confirm your name, score and date on the verification page.
Your score appears on the public leaderboard as “Anonymous” with a short random tag, unless you choose to add a nickname. If you start or join a friend challenge, your nickname, score and finishing time are visible to anyone with that challenge link.
Usage counts
To improve the test we count anonymous events, such as how many tests were started and finished, how often each question is answered correctly, and how many images were shared. These are totals only: they are not linked to you, your email or your result, and we use no third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
Cookies
We use a few first-party cookies that the site needs to work: one that remembers your latest result on this device, one per friend challenge you joined, and one that keeps an administrator signed in. For the kids practice, one cookie remembers the grown-up check for 12 hours and one remembers the practice packs bought on this device. When we test two versions of a page, a cookie remembers which version you saw so it stays the same. Your unfinished test is kept in your browser’s local storage so you can resume it.
Practice for children
The kids practice is used by a parent or guardian, who is our customer. Before a child starts, the grown-up confirms they are an adult and will stay with the child; we check a year of birth but do not store it.
We do not ask for a child’s name, age, photo or any other detail. We store only the answers to the puzzles and when they were given, linked to the grown-up’s browser by a cookie, so the results can be shown to them. The results can be deleted at any time from the results page.
If you buy a practice pack, we keep the pack and the payment record, and Stripe processes the payment. We send the pack’s link to the email address used at checkout. There are no ads, no third-party tracking and no sharing on any kids page.
Your rights
You can ask us to delete your result and purchase record at any time by writing to support@dottivo.com.
